CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A sixth place finish in the varsity eight at NCAA Championships didn’t mark the end for then senior Daphne Martschenko’s rowing career.

A recent Stanford graduate with degrees in anthropology and Slavic languages, Martschenko was back rowing this weekend, only this time with a different school. She is now attending the University of Cambridge in England and rowing for its women’s boat club. Her and her new teammates were competing at the 50th Head of the Charles in Cambridge, Mass. on Sunday.

Martschenko stroked the varsity eight to a 19th place finish in the race, while her teammates in the other Cambridge boat won the event. Martschenko’s boat posted a time of 17:32.34.

Two other former Stanford rowers, Elle Logan and Grace Luczak, also were in the race. The duo was part of the USRowing varsity eight that finished second overall with a time of 16:04.64.

In all there were four former Stanford women’s rowers at the Head of the Charles. Lindsay Meyer led Seattle Rowing Club to a first place finish in the Directors' Challenge Mixed Quads race. It was her second race of the weekend as she placed fifth in the championship singles event on Saturday.

The current members of Stanford women’s rowing will begin their fall season next weekend at the Head of the American in Gold River, Calif.
