Baseball To Hold Annual Alumni Weekend Nov. 21-22

Oct 22, 2014

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Sun Devil Baseball program will hold its annual Alumni Weekend on Nov. 21-22, head coach Tracy Smith announced.

Highlights of the weekend will include a golf outing followed by a barbeque at Phoenix Municipal Stadium on Nov. 21, and game four of the inaugural Maroon & Gold World Series and a trip to Sun Devil Stadium for the football team’s Pac-12 matchup with Washington State on Nov. 22.

"Moving this annual celebration from the beginning of February to the end of November will allow more former players to participate in this great tradition,” coach Smith said. “Our alumni represent the best of college baseball and it is very important for us to continue to honor and respect everything they have done for this program."

Alumni Weekend has traditionally taken place the weekend before the start of the Devils’ regular season, but that often coincides with the lead-up to the start of Spring Training. This move will allow our alums that are still playing professionally to be with their families before their respective seasons get underway and still participate in this great tradition.

All proceeds generated from this year’s Alumni Weekend will go directly to assist with the development and construction of a new batting facility.

The team’s fall practice schedule runs from Oct. 20 to Nov. 23 and is highlighted by the inaugural Maroon & Gold World Series, a best-of-five intersquad matchup Nov. 17-23 at Phoenix Muni.

The majority of practices and scrimmages will begin at 2:30 p.m. and be held at Packard Stadium. All fall events are open to the public, admission is free and hourly parking will be available in the bottom level of Structure 7.

ASU begins the 2015 season with an 18-game homestand starting on Feb. 13 against reigning Big 12 Conference champion and NCAA Super Regional host Oklahoma State.
