California Selected Second In Pac-12 Preseason Poll
BERKELEY – For the second consecutive season, the California women's basketball team received 111 points and was voted to finish second in the 2014-15 Pac-12 Preseason Coaches Poll.
The Golden Bears received three first-place votes after earning a top two finish in the conference for the third consecutive season last year. The three first-place votes are the most for the Bears since Cal picked up four in the 2008-09 preseason poll.
Stanford was predicted to win its 15th consecutive conference crown with 7 first-place votes, and Oregon State picked up the other two first-place votes while being predicted to finish third in the league. UCLA, Washington and USC rounded out the top six in the poll. Seven through 12 were Arizona State, Washington State, Oregon, Colorado, Utah and Colorado.
Cal returns three starters and seven of its letterwinners from last year's squad that went 22-10. Led by returning starters and All-America candidates Brittany Boyd and Reshanda Gray, the Bears advanced to the NCAA Second Round under head coach Lindsay Gottlieb.
The Bears open the year with a free exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 1 against Vanguard before beginning the regular season two weeks later at Pacific on Nov. 16. Ticket packages are available through the Cal Athletic Ticket Office, online or by calling 1-800-GO-BEARS.
