COLORADO SPRINGS - UCLA women's head swimming coach Cyndi Gallagher has been named to the U.S. National Team's coaching staff. Gallagher will remain on the staff for one year and qualified for the position after Katy Campbell won the 1500 Freestyle at the 2014 Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships.
Gallagher's past coaching experience with Team USA includes a stint as the head coach at the 2007 World University Games. She was also an assistant coach for the 2005 World University Games on a team represented by Kim Vandenberg, who was the most recent UCLA swimmer prior to Campbell to win a National Championship (2004 200 Butterfly).
The Bruin swimmers are back in the pool this Saturday at UC Santa Barbara at 12 p.m. in a tri-meet with the Gauchos and BYU. UCLA opened its season with a 143-104 home victory over Washington State on Oct. 10. The Bruins won 11 of 14 races, as juniors Katie Kinnear and Arlyn Upshaw each won a pair of races.
UCSB and BYU are each opening its respective seasons on Saturday.
