Beavers Visit, Alumni Join

STANFORD, Calif. -- The Stanford women’s swimming and diving team opens its home schedule as part of the annual Reunion Homecoming weekend. The Cardinal hosts Oregon State at 3 p.m., before taking part in an alumni meet along with the men’s program at 5 p.m.

The Cardinal (1-0, 1-0 Pac-12) is beginning a stretch of three straight home meets through Nov. 8, as Texas (Oct. 30) and Wisconsin (Nov. 8) follow on the schedule.

Last Time Out
Stanford won 11 events, including eight by freshmen, to start the 2014-15 campaign with a 174-124 win at Utah Sept. 26. Newcomers Janet Hu (3), Simone Manuel (2), Gracia Leydon-Mahoney (2) and Ally Howe (1) produced victories for the freshman class.

“We had a lot of fun racing a strong, well-coached Utah team today,” said head coach Greg Meehan. “This time of year isn’t about posting fast times; it’s about committing to details within our races. And I thought the team did that very well today, especially at 5,000 feet above sea level.”

In The Rankings
The Cardinal appears at No. 13 in the first Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll. USC comes in at No. 1, Georgia is No. 2 and Florida rounds out the top three. Other Pac-12 teams in the poll include USC, No. 4 California and No. 10 Arizona.

The Beavers
Oregon State is off to a 1-3 start with a win over Seattle and losses to Liberty, USC and California. The Beavers make a stop in Berkeley Thursday, losing to the Bears, 156-97. Junior Sammy Harrison became the first Pac-12 champion in school history by winning the 1,650 freestyle at last year’s conference meet. Harrison has won six events this season, as well as two second-place finishes.

Last Year vs. Oregon State
The Cardinal won nine of the first 10 events to dominate Oregon State, 170-88, Oct. 25, 2013 in its first road contest of the 2013-14 season. Felicia Lee won three individual events and Katie Olsen swept the 100 and 200 breaststrokes to help the Cardinal to its third straight dual win.

Stanford has won 11 straight dual meets dating back to Feb. 16, 2013. Head coach Greg Meehan is 18-2 in his Stanford tenure, which began during the 2012-13 season.
