TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona Women’s Tennis team is back in action this weekend, as junior Inge Hendrikx and senior Laura Oldham head to Northridge, California to represent the Wildcats in the eighth annual Cal State Northridge Matador Fall Collegiate Invitational.
Competition begins with doubles play on Friday at 11:00 a.m. MST out at the Matador Tennis Complex and will conclude on Sunday.
The Wildcats enter the event as the highest ranked squad from a year ago, as they finished the 2014 spring campaign placed at No. 33 in the nation. Arizona will compete against athletes from host Cal State Northridge, No. 70 UC Irvine, Portland, UC Riverside, Cal Poly, Seattle University, LMU, UC San Diego, Montana and Cal State Los Angeles.
Hendrikx enters the weekend boasting an impressive 4-1 singles mark this fall, after advancing to the championship match of the Wildcat Invitational earlier in month.
The duo will also pair up to compete in doubles action for the third time this fall, where the tandem holds a record of 1-1.
Oldham and Hendrikx were awarded a first round bye and the bracket’s No. 2 seed in the doubles portion of the event, as they’ll play the winner of the Britta Mosser/Kyra Scott (UCSD) and Leslie Chang/ Corinne Schnyder (CSUN) match in second round action at noon MST.
Singles play will begin immediately after the conclusion of day one doubles action, as Oldham will go up against Cal Poly’s Abby Bacharach, while Hendrikx will take on UCSD’s Britta Mosser. Both Oldham and Hendrikx represent the top seed in their respective brackets, while each of their opening round matches will begin at approximately 1:00 p.m. MST.
