Huskies Hit The Road To Take On Utes
SEATTLE – UW women’s soccer looks to continue its winning way with two road games this weekend, starting with a match against in Salt Lake against Utah on Friday at 7 p.m. MT.
The Huskies (11-4-0, 4-2-0 Pac-12) have won four straight after dropping their first two Pac-12 contests to Oregon and Stanford. UW has climbed to No. 18 in the latest NSCAA rankings and No. 11 in RPI. The Dawgs sit in third place in the conference, behind UCLA and Stanford, respectively.
UW is coming off a 3-0 victory over Oregon St. on Monday, Oct. 20. Jaclyn Softli scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season. The Huskies also got an OSU own goal and a late tally from freshman forward Rachel Wheeler, her first collegiate goal.
Soflit’s nine goals in 2014 equal her career total coming into the season put her in the top-10 for most goals in a season by a Husky. Her five game-winners in 2014 are fourth-most in a single season.
Senior Kate Bennett is second on the team with six goals and three assists and has scored in three of the last four games. Kimby Keever has five goals and two assists in her freshman campaign, while Becca Schoales has contributed three goals and Amanda Perez has two goals and two assists.
The Husky defense has posted back-to-back shutouts and five on the season. Junior keeper Megan Kufeld has played every minute this season. Center backs Allyson Brahs and Stine Schoening have started all 15 games and freshman Dominique Bond-Flasza has solidified the right back spot.
Utah (8-3-4, 1-3-2 Pac-12) went unbeaten through its first nine games of the season but has won just one game in its last six. The Utes are coming off a 2-2 draw against California in Berkeley
Katie Taylor leads Utah with four goals and five assists. Katie Rigby has pitched in three goals and four assists as 11 different Utes have scored goals this season.
UW beat Utah 1-0 in Seattle last year, the last meeting between the two squads. The Huskies are 3-4-0 all-time against the Utes and have won three of the last four after dropping the first three meetings. UW is 2-1-0 against Utah since the Utes joined the Pac-12 in 2011,
