Jackson, Pettis Earn Invites to Junior National Team Selection Camp
OKLAHOMA CITY -- The national prestige continues to grow for California softball, as Golden Bear freshmen Jazmyn Jackson and Kobie Pettis earned invites to the 2015 USA Softball Junior Women’s (19-Under) National Team, the Amateur Softball Association of America announced today.
The pair joins Cal senior Cheyenne Cordes and alumni Jolene Henderson (2010-13) and Valerie Arioto (2008-12) as Golden Bears who will be competing for spots on a USA Softball national team in January. On Oct. 16, USA Softball announced the selection of Cordes, Henderson and Arioto to the 32-woman Women’s National Team selection camp roster.
Jackson and Pettis are two of 22 athletes who received invitations for the selection camp, which will be held Jan. 3-4, 2015 at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, Calif. During the selection process, athletes will participate in position drills as well as simulated games and be evaluated by a selection committee. Seventeen athletes will be selected to represent the United States as a member of the 2015 JWNT roster that will compete at the World Cup of Softball X in Southern California and the International Softball Federation (ISF) Junior Women's World Championship, which will be held August 9-15 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Additional athletes may be invited to the USA Softball JWNT Selection Camp at a later date while additional opportunities for athletes to try out for the 2015 JWNT will be announced on Nov. 3 via USASoftball.com.
