No. 18 Huskies Finish Weekend At Colorado
BOULDER, Colo. – Coming off a 1-0 shutout against Utah Friday night in Salt Lake, No. 18 UW women’s soccer will conclude its weekend road trip in Colorado on Sunday with a match against the Buffaloes.
“We’re going to carry in the same 1-0 mentality as we have had in all our other games,” UW junior co-captain Megan Kufeld said. “We want to play our best and hopefully come out with a good result.”
The Huskies (12-4-0, 5-2-0 Pac-12) have won five straight and sit in third place in a very competitive Pac-12 conference. Jaclyn Softli has scored each of the last three games, all game-winners, and leads the team with 10 goals.
Kate Bennett is second on the squad with six goals and three assists. Freshman forward Kimby Keever has netted five goals to go with her two assists and Amanda Perez has three goals and two assists. Becca Schoales has also chipped in three goals, the last a late game-winner to give the Huskies a home victory over Arizona St.
Kufeld has recorded six shutouts on the season and three straight as the Huskies starting keeper. Center backs Allyson Brahs and Stine Schoening lead the back line and freshman Dominique Bond-Flasza has solidified the right back position. Senior midfielder Christina Archer also contributes to the Huskies’ stout defense as the defensive midfielder.
Colorado (10-6-0, 3-4-0 Pac-12) has lost its last two games after Friday’s home loss to Washington St. and now sits in a four-way tie for sixth place in the Pac-12.
The Buffaloes are led in scoring by Brie Hooks with five goals and four assists. Kahlia Hogg has contributed four goals and four assists. Keeper Kate Scheele has started all 15 games and has a .87 goals against average as well as seven shutouts.
The two squads have faced off just three times, all coming since 2011 when the Buffaloes joined the Pac-12. UW won the first two before dropping last year’s meeting 1-0 in overtime at home.
Sunday’s match will kick off at 1 p.m. MT and will be streamed live on CUBuffs.com. Fans can also follow the match and get other updates on Twitter at @UW_WSoccer.
