Cats Host Successful 5K Event
TUCSON, Ariz.--- Over 125 dedicated fans from all over Tucson joined the Wildcats, as they hosted their second annual 5K Walk/Run event Sunday morning on the University of Arizona campus mall.
The event served as the first chance to meet and interact with the 2014-15 Cats, while participating in a fun and healthy activity. Every fan in attendance received a custom Arizona Basketball “Breakthrough” t-shirt, representing the team’s slogan for the upcoming season.
“I just want to send out a huge thank you to everyone that took part in the event today,” said Arizona head coach Niya Butts. “The turnout was unbelievable and I can’t wait to see all of you at McKale Center this season. There is truly something special about our fans.”
Landis Nelson, DeRay Chatter, and Benjamin Blinder recorded the top three fastest times on the men’s side, while Lydia Jenning, Meghan Taylor, Rebecca Lipson, and Mandaraua Cox were the top female finishers in the race.
After the run, the Wildcats shared a brunch with numerous season ticket holders, as fans were given the opportunity to ask questions about the team, the upcoming season, and more.
Arizona will take the floor for the first time this season on Nov. 11 in an exhibition affair against Concordia University at 3 p.m. MST inside McKale Center. The Cats will tip off the regular season at home against Cal State Bakersfield on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. MST.
