Pac-12 volleyball occupies top-two spots in national poll

STANFORD and WASHINGTON have taken over the top-two spots in the AVCA Coaches poll this week, with the Cardinal occupying No. 1 and the Huskies nabbing No. 2 in the top 25. Both share the top spot in the Pac-12 standings as teams face the second half of league play ... Seven total teams are ranked again this week, while two more are receiving votes: No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Washington, No. 12 OREGON, No. 15 ARIZONA, No. 16 UCLA, No. 19 ARIZONA STATE and No. 20 USC, while OREGON STATE and COLORADO each received votes ... The Conference has recorded at least one upset in each week of league play, so far this season, and no team has been safe. Though the Cardinal and Huskies are undefeated, both have been tested with seven Stanford matches going to four or five sets, while UW has recorded five ... The Pac-12 has been equally as impressive in the RPI standings, with nine league teams rated 35 or better ... A trio of top-20 matches are slated for this week. Washington travels to face the Trojans to kick off the Pac-12 Networks slate on Wednesday, Oct. 29, and the Bruins will host UW on Halloween. The weekend wraps up with a clash between the Cardinal and the Ducks. The Buffs will also try to make some more noise as they travel to the Desert. They have posted a pair of key victories so far this year and look to continue to build on last year’s successes advancing to the NCAA Tournament ... Pac-12 Player of the Week honors went to Stanford’s Inky Ajanaku, who claims the offensive nod for the first time this season after claiming the defensive nod twice earlier in the season. OSU’s Darby Reader is the defensive winner this week, while Cardinal Merete Lutz was the freshman honoree for the second time. Lutz continues to lead the nation in hitting percentage ... UCLA’s Karsta Lowe, who has led the Bruins’ efforts in this season’s turnaround, is on pace to becoming only the fourth player in league history to average more than 6.00 kills per set. She is currently the nation’s leader in the category.
