UCLA’s latest “Spotlight” video highlights freshmen basketball players Recee' Caldwell and Jordin Canada, a pair of talented point guards who secured McDonald’s All-America honors in high school last season.
In this week’s “Spotlight,” both Caldwell and Canada discuss how they played against each other when they were younger and how two of the top point guards in the same recruiting class decided to come to UCLA and play on the same team.
Caldwell, a 5-foot-8-inch point guard from San Antonio, Texas, averaged 20.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 3.4 steals and 1.3 blocks per game in 2013-14 to lead F.E.A.S.T. to a 31-6 overall record. She started every game for the USA Basketball Women's U18 National Team in August, winning gold at the 2014 FIBA Americas Championship in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Canada, a 5-foot-6-inch point guard from Los Angeles, Calif., averaged 18.0 points, 7.0 assists, 5.0 steals and 4.0 rebounds per game in 2013-14 to lead Windward School to a 26-3 overall record and an 8-0 mark in the Alpha League. The Wildcats won the Alpha League title all four years she was there and was the CIF SS Champions in 2011, 2013 and 2014, capturing the State title in 2011.
