Orrange Preseason All-Pac-12

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford senior Amber Orrange was named to the five-person preseason All-Pac-12 Team as voted ­on by the media who regularly cover the conference’s women’s basketball teams it was announced on Wednesday.

One of the most dynamic guards in the country, Orrange started all 37 games a season ago, averaging 10.3 points and 4.49 assists per game while shooting 47.5 percent from the field. An All-Pac-12 selection by both the league’s coaches and its media, she was named to the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List and earned both Pac-12 All-Defensive Honorable Mention and Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention accolades.

The science, technology and society major improved her played in the NCAA Tournament, averaging 13.0 points and 4.60 assists while shooting 51.0 percent over the Cardinal’s final five games.

With 425 career assists, Orrange sits just behind a number of Stanford legends in that category and is aiming to become the seventh Cardinal to reach the 500-assist plateau, joining Sonja Henning (757), Jennifer Azzi (751), Milena Flores (644), Jamila Wideman (585), Nicole Powell (577) and Jeanette Pohlen (560). She’s also on track to crack Stanford’s career top 10 lists for both games and minutes played.

The Houston, Texas native was joined on the preseason All-Pac-12 squad by Jillian Alleyne (Oregon), Brittany Boyd (California), Jazmine Davis (Washington) and Reshanda Gray (California).

Stanford was picked to finish second in the Pac-12 Preseason Media Poll, garnering 190 points and seven first-place votes. Cal was the choice to win the league, totaling 194 points and nine first-place votes. Oregon State (162 points, one first-place vote), UCLA (144 points) and Washington (126 points) rounded out the top five.

Last Wednesday, the Cardinal topped the Pac-12 Preseason Coaches’ Poll for the 15th consecutive season when it was announced at the league’s annual Media Day in San Francisco.

Stanford kicks off the regular season on Friday, Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m. against Boston College in Maples Pavilion. Highlighting its challenging non-conference slate is a matchup against defending NCAA Champion Connecticut, which is scheduled to visit Maples on Monday, Nov. 17 in a game carried on ESPN2 as part of the network’s 24-hour College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon.
