TUCSON, Ariz—The University of Arizona Men’s Tennis team gets back to work this weekend, as it heads to Las Vegas, Nevada for the Larry Easley Memorial Classic.
The tournament will be Arizona’s fourth of the fall and UA’s first action since competing ITA Southwest Regionals two weeks prior. The Invitational is being held at UNLV’s Frank and Vicki Fertitta Tennis Complex, located on the university campus in Las Vegas.
The Cats will go up against opponents from host UNLV, No. 29 Boise State, No. 43 Oregon, Northern Arizona, Grand Canyon, Seminole (Okla.) State College and Mesa (Ariz.) Community College.
“For these guys, it is all about playing matches, and gaining experience,” said head coach Tad Berkowitz. “They all have been working extremely hard both on and off the court. Now it’s a matter of putting it all together and getting in some great competition this weekend.”
Competing for Arizona this weekend are freshmen Shoki Kasahara, and Romain Boudaroua, along with veterans, juniors Matt Dunn and Trevor James. Kasahara, Boudaroua and Dunn have each competed in at least two of the last three tournaments so far this season, as James will be making his season debut this weekend.
Kasahara is heading into the event sporting a 5-2 singles mark so far this fall, as he boasted an impressive tournament win at the SDSU Invitational earlier in the year for his first collegiate tournament win.
Action from Las Vegas begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. MST and will be made up of one flight of doubles and two flights of singles along with consolation play.
