BERKELEY – The No. 15 California women's basketball team will host a FREE preseason exhibition game against Vanguard at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Haas Pavilion.
There is FREE general admission for the Vanguard exhibition game, however season tickets holders are recommended to bring their tickets to secure their seats in the reserved sections of Haas Pavilion. The game will allow fans to get their first look at head coach Lindsay Gottlieb’s Golden Bears, a team picked to win the Pac-12 by a vote of the conference media earlier this week. Doors will open at 12:45 p.m.
There will be a live stream of the women’s basketball game available on CalBears.com as well.
This is the seventh consecutive year that Cal will play an exhibition game against the 12-time NAIA Golden State Athletic Conference-champion Lions. The Bears claimed a 91-62 win in last year’s meeting between the two teams.
California opens the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 16 at Pacific. The 2014-15 home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 18 against Nevada at Haas Pavilion. Single game, season ticket and mini-plan packages are available through the Cal Athletic Ticket Office, online or by calling 1-800-GO-BEARS.
A LOOK AT THE GOLDEN BEARS
Cal returns three starters and seven of its letterwinners from last year's squad that went 22-10. Led by returning starters and All-America candidates Brittany Boyd and Reshanda Gray, the Bears advanced to the NCAA Second Round and finished second in the Pac-12 standings. Cal, preseason No. 15 in the Associated Press Preseason Poll, was tabbed to finish first second in the Pac-12 by the media and second in a vote by the league coaches.
A LOOK AT VANGUARD
The Vanguard Lions enter the season ranked No. 3 in the NAIA preseason poll after a 27-2 campaign last season, with both losses coming in the postseason. The Lions have made 13 consecutive postseason appearances and last year advanced to the NAIA Second Round behind the leadership of NAIA Coach of the Year Russ Davis. Based out of Costa Mesa, the Lions open the year with exhibitions against California and Stanford before embarking on their search for a second national championship under Davis.
