SEATTLE – UW gymnastics hosted its first form of competition Friday morning at its training facility in Alaska Airlines Arena, a Halloween themed critique meet.
Two judges were invited to evaluate routines in each of the four events. The Huskies were split into two squads – the Ghosts and the Goblins – and competed similar to a real meet.
“We were pleased with where we are at this time of year,” UW head coach Joanne Bowers said. “We are so much further along than we have ever been and it was a great reality check for us. Everyone is very motivated to come in the gym next week and work on the little things to improve. This team is showing great fight and determination and we can go far if we keep working the way we are right now.”
In the unofficial competition, the Goblins won the meet, hitting 18 of their 22 routines. The Ghosts hit 16 of 22.
Standout performers identified by the coaches were Hailey Burleson and Alex Yacalis on vault; Allison Northey and Zoey Schaefer on bars; Janae Janik, Allison Northey and McKenzie Fechter on beam; and Madison Podlucky, Zoey Schaefer and Hailey Burleson on floor.
Highlights of the critique meet can be found on the UW Gymnastics YouTube channel.
The Huskies will host another critique meet on Friday, Nov. 21at 4 p.m. PT. Fans are welcome to attend.
