UW Dominates Head of the Lake

SEATTLE – UW crew dominated Head of the Lake, highlighted by the men winning the Collegiate 8+ and the women taking first in the Championship 8+ Sunday morning.

The men kicked off race day by finishing the Collegiate 8+ in 16:04.44. Oregon State, Gonzaga and Washington State were the next finishers, in that order. The men swept the top three spots in the JV 8+ and the 3V 8+ as well, going unbeaten in all three eights races. 

UW men's crew finished its day by sweeping the top-four spots in the Championship 4+, the first-place boat finishing in 17:40.37.

The UW women took first in the Championship Women’s 8+ with a time of 17:59.25. Rival Washington St. took second, followed by Gonzaga in third and University of Portland in fourth. Washington also took first in the Women’s JV 8+ in 18:26.23, followed by Washington St., Gonzaga and Old Dominion.

"It was a great day," UW women's head coach Bob Ernst said. "I think the teams rowed well. I was really pleased that the Cougars came and added value to the regatta. They have some really good rowers. The kids will be working really hard until our season starts in April."

In the 3V 8+, the UW women took second place, finishing behind Washington St. Gonzaga and Portland took third and fourth place, respectively.

The women took the top two spots in the Women’s Collegiate/Open 4+, with the first-place boat finishing in 21:20.46. After UW, UFV Rowing and Portland took third and fourth.

The Head of the Lake completes the Huskies fall schedule. The men will begin their 2015 season with the Class Day Regatta on March 28, 2015, before heading to Providence, R.I., to take on Brown the following weekend. The women will also take part in the Class Day Regatta and then race in the Dexter Regatta in Dexter Lake, Ore.
