Jones Earns Pac-12 Weekly Honor
BOULDER – University of Colorado senior Bianca Jones has been named the Pac-12 Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday.
Jones received the honor in recognition for her strong performance over the weekend as the Buffaloes swept the Arizona schools at home to remain unbeaten in their last three matches. The Aurora, Colo. native played in all 180 minutes and led the back line that only allowed a combined 21 shots in both contests.
On Friday, Oct. 31, Jones was part of a defensive attack that helped CU record its 10th shutout of the year and the Buffs earned their first win over Arizona State in program history, 2-0. It is the first time Colorado has held 10 opponents scoreless since the 2007 season. The Buffs’ defense limited the Sun Devils to 12 shots, which was short of their season average as ASU entered the game recording 14.9 shots in each match.
The Colorado co-captain also played a key role on Sunday, Nov. 2 as the Buffs claimed a 3-1 win over the Wildcats. Jones and the defense only surrendered nine shots to the Arizona offense that averages 17.6 shots per contest.
This is Jones’ first conference Defensive Player of the Week honor of her career. It is the second weekly Pac-12 honor for CU this season and fifth overall since joining the conference in 2011.
Colorado (12-6-1, 5-4-1 Pac-12) returns to the pitch for its regular season finale on Friday, Nov. 7 at noon MT to face the Utah Utes. The match will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
