CalBears.com: What made you choose Cal?
Boyd: Emily Boyd: The moment I stepped on the Berkeley campus it felt like home. I felt so welcomed by the team and the coaches. Along with the soccer, who wouldn't want to go to the best public school in the world? This is an opportunity of a lifetime.
CalBears.com: What are your hobbies outside of soccer?
Boyd: I really like making food, and watching the food channel. I also really like art, I hope to get into an art class soon.
CalBears.com: What’s your favorite part about Berkeley or the Cal campus?
Boyd: My favorite part of campus would either be the clock tower, or the view from the practice field. It feels like you are on top of the world in both places.
CalBears.com: Did you grow up watching Cal Athletics? What is it like to be able to represent the Golden Bears?
Boyd: Yes, for the last four years especially. My sister played soccer for the University of Washington so whenever Cal beat them it was really exciting!
CalBears.com: What are you planning on or thinking of majoring in, and what are your career goals?
Boyd: I’m really interested in sports marketing. I love talking to people and I love all sports, so being a rep for a sports-related company would be ideal, then maybe start my own company.
CalBears.com: What class were you most looking forward to this fall?
Boyd: Meditation…I needed to learn how to relax!
CalBears.com: Who do/did you look up to as a soccer player?
Boyd: My sister. She went into college being told she was going to redshirt. Eleven games into her freshman year she started her first game, and ever since then she didn't come off the field.
CalBears.com: What characteristic in people do you most admire?
Boyd: Selflessness, when someone doesn't think about just him or herself but someone else, especially in time of need.
CalBears.com: What is your biggest pet peeve?
Boyd: When running a fitness test and I'm trying really hard to beat someone and they cheat by turning before they reach the line.
CalBears.com: Do you have any special pre-game rituals?
Boyd: Every year I make a playlist of songs, and every year all the songs have to be different from the previous year. I get into the van on the way to the game and I look out the window, I start the playlist at the beginning and I don't talk to anyone until we've stepped on the field.
CalBears.com: What is your life motto or favorite quote?
Boyd: You make your own history.
CalBears.com: When you were a little kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Boyd: President of the United States
CalBears.com: Do you have a nickname – if so, what is it?
Boyd: Em, Emmy, Boyd
CalBears.com: If you could make a cameo on any TV show, which one would you choose?
Boyd: Ellen! Her shows are so funny and always so upbeat!
