Stanford's Baird voted men's soccer player of the week
SAN FRANCISCO - The Pac-12 Conference announced STANFORD’s Corey Baird as the Pac-12 Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for games from Nov. 3-9. He earns the honor for the second-consecutive week.
Baird (Escondido, Calif.) helped Stanford cap off its final regular-season homestand with a pair of wins over No. 3 Washington and Oregon State. He recorded a shot in the 2-0 win against the Huskies. Against the Beavers, the freshman assisted on the game’s first goal, putting the Cardinal up 1-0. In the 84th minute, after OSU had tied it up, Baird found the ball in space at midfield. Sprinting up the left, through OSU’s defense and into the box, he unleashed a left-footed blast to the far post and finished for his second game-winning goal of the year. The win moved Stanford into first place in the Pac-12 standings.
The honor is Baird’s second this year and is Stanford’s 20th all-time player of the week selection.
Stanford hits the road for its final game of the regular season, facing off with No. 7 CALIFORNIA on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1:00 p.m. PT. For more information and to view the 2014 television schedule, visit www.pac-12.com.
