Jon Rahm to Compete in 2014 OHL Classic
Tempe, Ariz.—Arizona State golfer Jon Rahm heads to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, to compete in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, Nov. 12-16. Mexico’s only PGA Tour event, the OHL Classic features 132 professional golfers participating in four rounds of stroke play competition at the Greg Norman-designed par-71, 7,039-yard El Camaléon Golf Club in Mexico’s Riviera Maya.
Rahm will be golfing alongside several PGA tour greats, including Davis Love III, Justin Leonard, Padraig Harrington, and Retief Goosen. Former Sun Devil golfers Pat Perez and Scott Pinckney are competing as well.
The 7,039-yard course bends through three distinct landscapes—tropical jungle, dense mangroves, and oceanfront stretches of sand with holes bisected by massive limestone canals. The course even incorporates a cenote—an underground cavern common to the area—into the heart of the opening fairway. In 2007, El Camaleón made history by becoming the first golf course to host an official PGA TOUR event in México and the first official PGA Tour event ever contended outside of the United States or Canada.
The OHL Classic at Mayakoba brings some of the world’s best PGA Tour players to the Riviera Maya and provides a week of entertainment and competitive golf. The Pro-Am competition will take place Wednesday, Nov. 12, and will be followed by a Pro-Am Awards dinner. The first round of competition begins Thursday, Nov. 13. The tournament concludes on Sunday, Nov. 16, with the final round followed by a closing ceremony.
