California Signing Day: Getting To Know Bre Cavanaugh

Nov 13, 2014

BERKELEY – The 2014 women’s basketball national signing window has opened, and CalBears.com will highlight each member of the 2014-15 signing class in a special "Getting To Know You" series from Wednesday to Sunday. Today's feature is on Breanna Cavanaugh, a guard from Hackettstown, N.J.

Cavanaugh, a 5-8 guard, attends Blair Academy in New Jersey where she has helped lead the Buccaneers to a 63-8 record over the past three seasons. Her leadership as the floor general has led her team to three consecutive Mid-Atlantic League and New Jersey State championships in 2012, 2013 and 2014. She is a three-time participant at Nike Nationals and a one-time participant at the Adidas National Camp. Cavanaugh has also been invited to the Nike Skills Academy and the 8Eye Classic in Philadelphia.

A four-star recruit by ESPN HoopGurlz, she is ranked No. 13 in the Northeast and is regarded as a top 100 recruit by ESPN, All Star Girls Report, Blue Star and Prospects Nation. As a junior in 2013-14, Cavanaugh averaged 17 points, six assists, four steals and eight rebounds per game for the Bucs en route to New Jersey All-State first team honors. She was also an All-State selection as a sophomore and is a three-time All-MAPL (Mid-Atlantic Prep) selection.

“We are so excited to add Bre Cavanaugh to the Golden Bear Family,” California head coach Lindsay Gottlieb said. “She's our first East Coast recruit since I’ve been here, and that’s really special and speaks to our growing national reputation. Bre has a work ethic that is unparalleled. She’s a multi-dimensional guard: she’s explosive to the rim, can shoot the three, or play in pick and roll. She’s fits perfectly in our up-tempo, aggressive style of play. Our fans are truly going to embrace Bre and all that she’ll bring to our program, on and off the court.”

Cavanaugh is the daughter of Daniel and Bernadette and has five siblings. She is an avid follower of mixed martial arts. She anticipates majoring in forensic science at Cal to help prepare her for her goal of becoming an FBI agent.
