Olivia Benzin Signs NLI With Women’s Golf
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Olivia Benzin has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Oregon State women’s golf program for the 2015-16 season, head coach Sammie Chergo announced Thursday.
Benzin, a native of Tacoma, Wash., has helped Bellarmine Preparatory School win three consecutive 5A State Championships
“We are excited to have Olivia joining our Oregon State women’s golf family,” Chergo said. “She is a dedicated, hard-working player and student who is committed to excelling both athletically and academically here in Beaver Nation.”
Benzin won the Washington Junior Golf Association State Championship with rounds of 66-72-73. Her biggest athletic thrill to date was shooting a 6-under 66 at that tournament, which was held at Manito Golf Club in Spokane, Wash.
She had seven wins on the Northwest Junior Golf Tour and her best tournament was 70-65 at Trophy Lake and McCormick Woods. Benzin was the medalist at the Junior World Qualifier and competed in Junior Worlds in 2014. In 2014 she also earned the top spot on the Girls Junior Americas Cup Team and qualified to play in the US Girls Junior Championship in Arizona.
Academically, Benzin has a 3.63 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society and honor roll.
Benzin chose Oregon State because “of the excellent academics, an excellent golf program and I love the campus.” Her hobbies include watching football and cycling, and her favorite athlete is Oregon State great Gary Payton because “he is working to bring the SuperSonics back to Seattle.”
