Nov 17, 2014

SAN FRANCISCO - CALIFORNIA junior guard Tyrone Wallace has been named Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for play from Nov. 10-16, the Conference office announced today in a vote of media who cover Pac-12 men’s basketball.

The Bakersfield, Calif., native was just shy of averaging a double-double as he posted 20.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game along with 5.5 assists per game in two victories for the Golden Bears. Wallace, who transitioned to point guard after two seasons at shooting guard, was 15-for-25 from the field and 8-for-12 from the free-throw line over the weekend. The junior posted 22 points and 10 rebounds for his third-career double-double in Cal’s 91-57 win over Alcorn State on Friday, adding four assists and two steals. Wallace then followed with 18 points and nine rebounds in the 93-59 victory over Kennesaw State on Sunday, dishing out seven assists which was one shy of a career high.

The honor marks Wallace’s second-career weekly award after he also took home the honor in the first week of the 2013-14 season. It is California’s 53rd player of the week selection all-time.

The Bears head to the East Coast this week to continue play in the 2K Classic, facing off against Syracuse on Thursday, Nov. 20 then playing either Iowa or Texas on Friday, Nov. 21. Both games will take place in New York, N.Y. at Madison Square Garden, with Thursday’s contest televised live on ESPN2 and Friday’s game on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.
