Cal Divers Cyr and Scribbick Visit Texas Invite
BERKELEY – Coach Todd Mulzet and his two men’s divers – junior Peter Cyr and freshman Finn Scribbick – will be facing some of the nation’s best competition this week when they travel to Austin for the Texas Diving Invitational Thursday-Saturday.
Yet taking on the nation’s best divers is exactly what Mulzet and his crew want when they battle athletes from host Texas, as well as Arizona State, Hawaii, TCU, Houston, Wyoming and Kansas. The Golden Bear divers know to succeed at the end of the season, they need to see some of the competitors they will face later on, either in Pac-12 dual meet competition (ASU), or at the NCAA Zone E Meet March 9-11, 2015 in Colorado Springs.
Cyr and Scribbick have already performed well this year as the two divers were champions in Cal’s last dual meet, Nov. 7 versus Wisconsin. Cyr, who hails from Hamden, Conn. placed first on the three-meter board versus the Badgers with a mark of 310.88. Newcomer Scribbick, a highly touted freshman out of San Antonio, Texas, captured the one-meter board against Wisconsin with a score of 313.58.
Scribbick is a four-time Texas state diving champion and placed eighth on the one-meter board at the 2013 USA Diving Junior National Championships. He also captured the bronze medal at the 2013 Pan Am Games in the three-meter synchronized diving competition.
The Texas Diving Invitational finals each day will air live on the Longhorn Network and fans can follow along with online results at divemeets.com.
