Baseball Holds Final Scrimmage before Foreign Tour

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State pitching duo Ian Hamilton and Joe Pistorese each stood out for the Cougars in the 2014 fall season.

Hamilton, the Cougars' closer coming off a freshman All-American season, yielded one earned run and five hits in 20 innings while striking out 27. Pistorese, Washington State's ace last season, posted a 1.06 ERA and fanned 22 in 17 innings. Freshman Nick Leonard also contributed on the hill. He recorded a 2.12 ERA and struck out 16 in 21 2/3 innings.

Three hitters batted .340 or better, led by infielder Shea Donlin's 17 hits and .362 batting average. Newcomer Daniel Fredrickson was 13-for-38 (.342) while Stefan Van Horn led all hitters with a .367 average.

The Cougars head to the Dominican Republic, Saturday and will play five games against foreign competition next week.
