Mariota considered for two more honors

Nov 20, 2014

HONOLULU/ORLANDO -- University of Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota saw his name added as a finalist for two more awards Thursday; as one of five players considered for the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame College Football Player of the Year and one of four for the fifth annual Pop Warner National College Football Award.

Mariota, a junior from Honolulu, is the nation's top passer in terms of efficiency (184.56), while totaling an FBS-high 38 touchdowns for the Associated Press No. 3 Ducks (No. 2 College Football Playoff). The two-time all-conference quarterback ranks first nationally in yards per pass attempt (10.0) and yards per play (9.0) by a quarterback.

Mariota sits just nine rushing yards shy of becoming only the fifth player in FBS history with at least 9,000 passing yards and 2,000 rushing yards in a career. He would become only the second player to accomplish the feat in three years.

The winner of the 2014 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award, which epitomizes great ability and integrity, will be announced on December 9. The Pop Warner College Football Award, which honors a player who has contributed at a high level on the field, in the classroom and in his community, will be presented December 10 at Disney World's ESPN Wide World of Sports during the Pop Warner Super Bowl.

Mariota is also a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and a semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year, the Maxwell Award and the Davey O'Brien Award.
