Nov 21, 2014

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Senior defender Thelma Einarsdottir led the way with a Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team selection as 10 California women’s soccer players collected conference academic honors, commissioner Larry Scott announced Friday. Einarsdottir was the lone Bear on the second team, while nine players shared honorable mention status.

The Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention team includes: Celeste Boureille, Taylor Comeau, Karly Graf, Lorin Hom, Kory Lamet, Grace Leer, Arielle Ship, Alexa Vandevanter and Samantha Witteman.

To be awarded Pac-12 All-Academic status, a player must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and appear in at least 50 percent of the team's games.

With a double major in economics and business, Einarsdottir carries a 3.66 GPA. This is her first selection to the second team, and she was a member of the honorable mention team in 2012.

Lamet and Comeau are three-time All-Academic honorable mention recipients, earning recognition every year that they have been eligible since 2012. Leer and Boureille were honorable mentions in 2013, and this is the first year Hom, Vandevanter, Witteman, Graf and Ship have been placed on an All-Academic team.

The Golden Bears meet the Florida Gators tonight in Gainesville for the second round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament. The action kicks off at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT from Donald R. Dizney Stadium, live on the SEC Network+.
