Volleyball Loses to No. 22 ASU 3-2

PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State volleyball team (10-19 overall, 1-16 Pac-12) battled back after a two-set deficit to force a fifth set but could not contain No. 22 Arizona State (18-11, 8-9) as the Sun Devils took the 3-2 win. The set scores were 25-21, 25-17, 22-25, 22-25, and 15-8.

WSU was led by Emmy Allen’s 13 kills and .308 hitting percentage. Two Cougs had double-doubles: Jaicee Harris had 11 kills and 10 digs and Haley MacDonald set up 44 assists and had 10 digs. Kyra Holt had nine kills and 11 digs. Kate Sommer led the match with 20 digs. Five Cougars landed aces. Chelsey Bettinson and Ver’Leea Hardaway each contributed six blocks to lead the match, with Stephanie Logan adding five blocks. WSU tallied 12.5 blocks to ASU’s six, making this the 10th time in 17 Pac-12 matches that WSU has out-blocked the opponent.

Macey Gardner’s 29 kills (.322), three aces, and 11 digs led Arizona State. Mercedes Binns added 11 kills. Shannan McCready and Halle Harker each had 18 digs while Bianca Arcellano added 15 digs and led the Sun Devils with three blocks. ASU hit .188 for the match and held WSU to a .140 team hitting percentage.

WSU takes on No. 13 Arizona (21-8, 10-7) Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. in Bohler Gym. The match will be viewable through online streaming video/audio at wsucougars.com.
