Huskies Progressing In Second Critique Meet

Nov 22, 2014
SEATTLE - UW gymnastics held its second critique meet of the 2014-15 season Friday morning, showing great progress and leaving the team very hopeful for the upcoming season.
"It was another step in the right direction for this time of year," head coach Joanne Bowers said. "We have the potential to score well on every event and really need to focus on the details right now to be ready for the season. It has been really helpful for our staff to see how our young team performs under pressure and see who needs more help in that area."
The beam team hit 10 out of 10 routines and showed quality depth, with Allison Northey's 9.85 leading the way. McKenzie Fechter and Janae Janik each posted a score of 9.8, while Zoey Schaefer and Hailey Burleson each recorded a 9.75.
Alexandra Yacalis posted the high score in the vault with a 9.85. Burleson and Joslyn Goings each posted a 9.75, tied for the second best score in the event.
On bars, Stephanie Stowe led the way with a 9.9, and five GymDawgs recorded a score of 9.7, namely Kaitlyn Duranczyk, Madison Podlucky, Fechter, Schaefer and Yacalis.
Schaefer recorded the highest score on the team on floor with a 9.75. Duranczyk, Janik, Northey and Podlucky each scored a 9.7.
The GymDawgs will host their first intrasquad meet in Alaska Airlines Arena on Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. PT. The Purple and Gold Meet is open to the public and free of charge.
