OSU with Dominant First Day at Simon Fraser
BURNBY, Canada – The Oregon State swimming team started strong at the Simon Fraser International Friday, taking multiple top finishes and ending the day with a team score of 359, a significant lead over the second place Simon Fraser at 223.
The Beavers took the top three finishes In the 400 Meter Freestyle. Led by Sammy Harrison, who set a new meet record of 4:11.36 in the process, freshman Noemie Midrez finished second with 4:24.86 and senior Dakota Bloch came in third with a time of 4:27.47.
Harrison also finished first and set a new meet record in the 1500 Freestyle, stopping the clock at 16:26.46, over a minute before the next closest swimmer.
The first event of the day was the 200 Meter Freestyle Relay. The Beavers scored points with all four of their teams, taking second and third place finishes in addition to fifth and eighth. The Beavers would coincidentally also take second, third, fifth and eighth place at the 400 Medley Relay later in the day.
Andrea Young took second place in the 200 IM event with a time of 2:20.77. Czsarina Isleta finished in third with a time of 2:23.02 and stopping the clock less than a second later, Amani Amr took fourth place at 2:23.99.
OSU took second through fifth place in the 50 Meter Freestyle with all four swimmers finishing within half a second of each other. They were led by Sophie MacEwan in second with a time of 26.76 followed by Claire McLaggan at 26.84, Andrea Young at 26.94 and Korina Steinbergs at 27.29. Ani Hecker took seven place and Constance Toulemonde took eighth.
The Beavers will return to action all day Saturday with the meet continuing into Sunday. Live stats for the meet can be found here.
