SEATTLE -- Sophomore guard Kelsey Plum has been named to the 2014 John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 30 list – college basketball’s most prestigious honor. Plum joins five other Pac-12 players on the list.
The list is comprised of 30 student-athletes are the early front-runners for the award, which is chosen by a preseason poll of national women’s college basketball media members. Last year’s honor went to Stanford’s Chiney Ogqumike.
Plum has played a large role in the Huskies’ 2-1 start this season, as she has posted 110 points through Washington’s first three contests – including her 45 point game against Oklahoma which established a new Washington record. Plum also leads the Huskies with her .902 free-throw percentage – making 37-of-41 attempts so far.
Her 36.7 average points per game leads the national rankings, with the runner-up averaging seven points fewer.
In 2013, Plum was Pac-12 Freshman of the year, set the Washington single-season and conference freshman record for point with 712 last season. She also set the UW single-season record with 203 free throws made, another mark which led the Pac-12.
Plum and the Huskies travel to Cancun, Mexico this week for a three-game trip where they will face Florida State, Hartford, and Furman.
