VB Sees Record Eight Selections To Pac-12 Academic Teams
TEMPE, Ariz.—Arizona State volleyball’s senior Shannan McCready and sophomore Kizzy Willey were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team and six other Sun Devils were honored on the second team and honorable mention lists, Commissioner Larry Scott announced on Tuesday.
This marks the first time in program history that eight Sun Devils have been honored for academic achievements by the league.
McCready owns a 3.90 GPA and is pursuing a degree in Family and Human Development while Willey has a 3.94 GPA and is majoring in communications.
Redshirt freshman Genevieve Priotte’s 3.80 GPA in English earned her second-team honors, while junior Bianca Arellano, sophomore Bree Bailey, and juniors Whitney Follette, Macey Garder, and Andi Lowrance earned honorable mention accolades.
This season, ASU doubled its selection to the conference academic teams, with repeat honors for McCready (2nd Team in 2013), Follette (Honorable Mention in 2013), Gardner (Honorable Mention in 2013).
In the history of the program, ASU has earned 62 Pac-12 All-Academic awards, the most in the conference.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team’s games.
