Stanford

Stanford survives Florida, advances to College Cup After the Cardinal's Taylor Uhl opened the scoring, the Gators got on the board thanks to fortuitous own goal off the head of a Stanford defender. 10 minutes in, this quarterfinal showdown was tied at one goal apiece. Kenall Romine's header in the 78th minute put Stanford back on top, but Florida equalized once again. After two scoreless overtime periods, the match went to a penalty kick shootout, where Jane Campbell proved to be the hero. The Cardinal's sophomore goalie saved Florida's first two tries, while Romine and Lo'eau LaBonta converted their spot kicks. Needing a goal to advance, Campbell was called upon for her offense. She buried her penalty kick try and sent the Cardinal to their sixth College Cup in the last seven years. No. 1 Stanford will now face Florida State on Dec. 5 with a spot in the National Championship on the line.

UCLA

UCLA eliminated from NCAA tournament on first loss in over a year Virginia notched a goal early in the first half, and followed it up with another goal in the second half. UCLA answered with a goal of its own in the 73rd minute, but it was not enough to down the visiting Cavaliers. UCLA lost its first match of 2014, and is eliminated from NCAA title contention.
