Pac-12 announces women's basketball players of the week

SAN FRANCISCO - CALIFORNIA’s Brittany Boyd was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, while WASHINGTON’s Brianna Ruiz was tabbed the Freshman of the Week, as announced by the Conference on Monday.

Senior guard Brittany Boyd (Berkeley, Calif.) had a week of records for the Golden Bears. She averaged a triple-double over the week with 11.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 10.0 assists per game against Sacramento State and Kansas. Her 16 assists against Sacramento State matched the Cal record set by Eliza Sokolowska in 1996. Against Kansas, she recorded her 296th career steal, surpassing Mazetta Garrett, (295 steals, 1979-84) for the most all-time by a Golden Bear. In the Sacramento State game, she earned her third-career triple-double and second in a six-day span with 11 points, a career-high 19 rebounds and 16 assists. The senior ranks first in the nation in assist average with 9.1 assists per game.

Washington forward Brianna Ruiz was a spark for the Huskies last week, helping the team to victories over Seattle, 102-69, and Portland, 80-45. Ruiz averaged 10.5 points in the two games. Against Portland the freshman got to the line and made 5-of-5 free throws and scored a career-high 14 points as the Huskies extended their win streak to seven games.
