Roundup: Mariota a Heisman finalist; Scooby and Kendricks win hardware

No surprise here – Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota was named a finalist for the Heisman Trophy on Monday. Joining him in New York will be Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper and Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon.

Sweet! Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright III won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Monday night, and now he will travel to Houston for the Lombardi Award presentation on Wednesday. Way to go, two-star Scoob.

And props to UCLA linebacker Eric Kendricks, who won the Butkus Award. Also, UCLA and Kentucky men’s basketball are starting a home-and-home series that will begin next season.

Sounds like Oregon State is looking at Eastern Washington coach Beau Baldwin to fill in the football head coaching vacancy left behind by Mike Riley. Additionally, here’s a letter from Oregon State AD Bob De Carolis on the coaching search.
