Roundup: Stanford set for Final Four matchup with Penn State

Stanford

Stanford women’s volleyball will take on Penn State in the Final Four Thursday night in OKC (approximately 6:30 p.m. PT, ESPN2, depending on how long BYU-Texas goes), so Elliott Almond of the San Jose Mercury News gets us ready for the matchup by featuring Stanford middle blocker Merete Lutz. The Nittany Lions defeated the Cardinal in the 2007 and 2008 NCAA title matches. Also, reports are surfacing that Michigan has offered former Stanford football coach Jim Harbaugh a six-year, $48-million deal to be the Wolverines’ head honcho.

Oregon

2014 Oregon graduate Laura Roesler took home the Bowerman Trophy Wednesday night. She's the first Pac-12 athlete to take home the nation's top track & field award since 2010 and the fourth from the conference all-time.

USC

Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times explores the options USC football has to replace Antwaun Woods, the injured nose tackle who will not be available for the Holiday Bowl against Nebraska.

Arizona

Kudos to Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright III for being named a unanimous All-American, the sixth in school history according to the school's release.

Oregon State

Nick Bromberg of Yahoo Sports tells us that Chasen Andersen, Wisconsin football walk-on and Gary Andersen’s son, had no inside knowledge of his father leaving for Oregon State. Apparently, Chasen found out his dad was leaving for Corvallis when the rest of the team did. Also, Connor Letourneau takes a deeper look at Oregon State men’s basketball’s game against DePaul Thursday night. The Blue Demons beat the Beavs last year and took care of the Cardinal earlier this year.

Washington

Washington men’s hoops continued its early-season roll as the 16th-ranked Huskies dominated Grambling State 86-38 to improve to 9-0 on the season.

California

Cal football signed three players Wednesday – safety Derron Williams-Brown, defensive end DeVante Wilson and quarterback Ross Bowers.

Washington State

While we’re on this note, Washington State football added two junior college transfers – safety Shalom Luani and defensive end Jeremiah Mitchell.

Arizona State

Rough start to the season with a young team and a tough schedule, but the Bruins enter Thursday riding a three-game winning streak.
