Fan Finishes Seventh In Winter Silver Belle Championship

Jan 2, 2015

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Freshman Brittany Fan of the University of Colorado women's golf team competed in the Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship this week during her semester break and finished tied for seventh overall and third in her division.

The junior tournament featured 111 women ages 13-23 in a 54-hole stroke play championship and was held at the Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.

Fan posted a 71-72-68-211 or 5-under par to propel her to a top 10 finish. She turned in her best round on the last day, when she was an impressive 4-under par, tallying seven birdies. She came out on fire, birdying three of the first five holes, then pared four straight before making the turn. The Pearl City, Hawaii native entered the back nine at 3-under par. She pared the 10th hole and drained back-to-back birdies on 11 and 12. Fan recorded 10 total birdies over the three-round tournament and her seventh place finish was the best of the season since making her Colorado debut in September.

Mariel Galdiano, a 16 year-old, also from Pearl City won the tournament with a record 16-under, (66-67-67) 200. She led all three rounds and finished seven strokes ahead of second place.

Fan will return to the links along with her Buffalo teammates February 14-15 when CU competes in its first tournament of the spring season, the Peg Barnard Invitational in Stanford, Calif.
