UW Lands Valpo Transfer Anesini

Jan 14, 2015

SEATTLE – UW women’s soccer has added junior transfer Kat Anesini to its roster, a local product joining the Huskies from Valporaiso University in Indiana.

“I grew up watching UW soccer and wanted to come here out of high school, so this is really exciting for me,” Anesini said. “Everybody’s been really nice and the campus is beautiful. It felt like the right fit. I’m really close with my family so being back in the Northwest is great.”

Anesini comes to Washington after two seasons at Valpo where she played in 33 games as a freshman and sophomore. She registered a goal and an assist in 2014, playing in 18 games and starting three.  She is eager to join a Husky squad that enjoyed its fourth Sweet 16 run in program history in 2014.

“We're excited to have a player of Kat’s caliber join our squad,” UW head coach Lesle Gallimore said. “She's gained a great amount of experience at Valpo and is coming off a good season. It will be great to see her in the coming months and see how she’ll fit in with our team positionally.”

Gallimore’s reputation as a great coach and the Huskies’ recent success added to Anesini’s excitement about coming to Washington.

“I heard nothing but great things about Lesle (Gallimore),” Anesini said. “I knew it was a good program and they did really well this year.”

The forward played her high school soccer at Seattle’s Ballard High School where she was a three-time King County 4A All-Conference honoree. Anesini was also a member of the Washington State ODP team.

Anesini has already started offseason workouts with the team and will participate in the upcoming spring schedule in preparation for the 2015 fall season.
