No. 2 UCLA Travels to UCSB Winter Invitational this Weekend
The second-ranked UCLA women’s water polo team travels to the 2015 UCSB Winter Invitational this weekend to meet a pair of ranked opponents among four games in two days.
On Sat., Jan. 24, the Bruins (2-0) will open the tournament with a 10 a.m. game against No.14 UC Santa Barbara (0-0), which plays two games on Friday. At 5 p.m. on Saturday, the Bruins will meet Cal Baptist (0-2), a team they beat 16-5 last weekend.
On Sun., Jan. 25, UCLA plays at 9:15 a.m. against Sonoma State (1-1), and later that day at 3 p.m., the Bruins wrap up their weekend with a game against No. 12 Long Beach State (0-0).
In last Saturday’s victory against Cal Baptist, UCLA featured nine different scorers, led by junior India Forster, who scored a career-high four goals in her first start in two years. Four other players added two goals as the Bruins built an 11-2 halftime lead en route their 16th consecutive season-opening victory.
UCLA also defeated No. 16 Loyola Marymount 21-5 on Saturday afternoon. Five players were credited with three goals apiece, and goalkeeper Sami Hill added seven saves.
Hill’s 13 saves in two games last weekend moved her just 10 shy of tying the UCLA career record of 746 held by Nicolle Payne (1995-98).
