TEMPE, Ariz. -- Still struggling with injuries, the Arizona State women's gymnastics team fought a tough battle against the Stanford Cardinal, taking second place with a score of 193.850-196.525.

Beam, which head coach René Lyst affectionately refers to as her baby, broke the 49-point mark for the second time this season.  Junior Stephanie Miceli led the Devils with a 9.875, followed by junior transfer Taylor Allex and senior Brianna Gades with a 9.850 and a 9.825, respectively. Every Gym Devil that competed recorded season high scores on beam, and Salas, who competed last for the Sun Devils, had a career high score of 9.725.

On vault, Allex was the top scorer for the Sun devils, achieving a career-best score of 9.900.

Junior Allie Salas also came up strong for the Sun Devils scoring a season-high 9.850. The gym Devils tied their season score for vault with a 48.525. 

After the first rotation, Stanford led the meet with a score of 49.325 with the Gym Devils trailing by 0.800, with 48.525.

The Gym Devils only competed five athletes on bars, due to an injury and scratch by junior Carissa Kraus.  Senior Brianna Gades led the team on bars with a 9.850.  After two rotations, Stanford continued to lead the meet with a score of 98.300 to the Sun Devils 97.350.

Only five gymnasts competed on floor; Salas, Allex, and sophomore Beka Conrad all hit scores of 9.800, while Miceli went 9.725, achieving another season high.

The Stanford Cardinal finished with a team score of 196.525 to take first place.

Next up, the Gym Devils travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to take on the University of Utah on Friday February 6 at 6 p.m. MT.
