Sophomore Sydney Wiese breaks 3-point record for Oregon State women's basketball
She's not even finished with her sophomore season yet, but Sydney Wiese has already carved out a place for herself in the Oregon State women's basketball record books.
In the first half of Friday night's 70-64 win against visiting Arizona State, Wiese knocked down the 179th 3-pointer of her career in just her 59th game. The trifecta moved her past Felicia Ragland for first place on the all-time school leaderboard, and she still has two-plus seasons to go. But Wiese stayed humble when discussing the milestone with Pac-12 Networks after the game.
"I think I have to give all the credit to my teammates," Wiese said. "This is definitely a team record. They set the picks for me, they give me good passes and I just have to nail the shot. It's a blessing to be here and break the record in front of my home [fans]. My family was here tonight, so it was awesome. And then in front of this awesome crowd -- I couldn't ask for anything more."
It was a nice bonus for Wiese and the Beavers, who moved to 11-0 at Gill Coliseum this year while taking down a top-15 conference foe.
