Pac-12's Chris Dawson named 2015 WBCA Administrator of the Year

SAN FRANCISCO - Chris Dawson, associate commissioner of the Pac-12 Conference, is the recipient of the 2015 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Administrator of the Year award, the WBCA office announced today.

Named Pac-12 assistant commissioner of Olympic sports in August 2001, Dawson was promoted to associate commissioner in February of 2006. She has served on numerous NCAA committees and cabinets, including on the NCAA Division I Awards, Benefits, Expenses and Financial Aid Cabinet; NCAA Championships and Competition Cabinet, where she was chair; NCAA Strategic Planning Cabinet; NCAA Soccer Rules Committee; NCAA Woman of the Year Committee; and the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Committee, and finally the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee, which she joined 2011.

“We are very proud to have Chris on our team at the Pac-12 and celebrate her on this well-deserved honor,” said Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott. "Chris has brought dedicated spirit to the sport of women's basketball throughout her career and has played a fundamental role in the sport’s growth.”

In November of 2014 the NCAA announced that Dawson will serve as as the next chair of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee during the 2015-16 academic year. She is currently the Pac-12’s liaison for women’s basketball, men’s soccer, wrestling, women’s golf, and softball. Dawson is also responsible for administering the officiating policy for the conference.

The WBCA Administrator of the Year Award is presented annually to an administrator, athletic director, associate or assistant athletic director, or senior woman administrator who has excelled at encouraging the growth and quality of women’s basketball programs and women’s athletic programs overall. The candidate also must have served as a professional role model for student-athletes.
