PHOENIX – Starting right-hander Seth Martinez put together a career night and second baseman Jordan Aboites hit a timely single to give No. 17 Sun Devil Baseball a 5-4 walk-off win over CSU Bakersfield in the first day of the Phoenix Muni Classic on Thursday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

Martinez notched a career-high nine strikeouts in seven innings, tied for his career-long outing, and left the game with a three-run lead. He did not issue a walk, and scattered four hits and one run in his second start of the season.

Aboites stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the ninth, and drove a single to left field on a 2-1 count to break a 4-4 tie and give the Sun Devils (5-3) its second walk-off win of the season.

Right-handed reliever Ryan Burr (2-0) struck out four and conceded just one hit in a pair of innings to pick up his second win this year.

Shortstop Colby Woodmansee recorded a pair of singles and now has four multi-hit games through the first eight games of the year, and first baseman Chris Beall added a two-run single.

Beall drove in a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to stake the Devils an early 2-0 advantage. A leadoff infield single by center fielder Johnny Sewald, followed by a base hit from Woodmansee and a walk to designated hitter RJ Ybarra loaded the bases for Beall, who collected his first two RBI of the season on a single to left field.

The Roadrunners (3-6) countered with a run in the top of the second via a triple and a two-out single to cut the Devils' lead in half, 2-1. ASU extended its lead to three, 4-1, with unanswered runs in both the third and fourth innings. Ybarra hit a sacrifice fly in the third and DiNatale added a solo home run, his first of the season, over the right-field wall in the fourth.

CSU Bakersfield loaded the bases off ASU right-handed reliever Eder Erives in the top of the eighth before he was replaced by Aboites, who conceded a two-run single through the left side. Burr took over for Aboites with runners at first and second and no outs, and a RBI groundout tied the game at four runs apiece.
