PHOENIX – Starting left-hander Ryan Kellogg allowed two runs over eight innings and the offense recorded double-digit hits for the fourth consecutive game as No. 17 Sun Devil Baseball defeated Gonzaga, 5-2, in the final day of the Phoenix Muni Classic Saturday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

Kellogg (3-0) settled in after conceding a home run on his first pitch of the game and tossed five consecutive scoreless innings to register his third win of the season and the 22nd of his career. He did not issue a walk for the second consecutive start and the 15th start of his career, and he has put together a quality start in 19 of his 33 career starts.

Catcher Brian Serven went 3-for-3 and four others collected a pair of hits as the Sun Devils (7-4) recorded 13 hits. Shortstop Colby Woodmansee put Arizona State on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third with his second hit of the game, a RBI single, and boosted his team-leading multi-hit games to six this season.

Right-hander Ryan Burr (4) gave up a single to lead off the ninth, but struck out the next three batters he faced to collect his fourth save of the season and the 28th of his career. He upped his team-leading strikeout total to 19 and has a 0.00 ERA in a team-high seven appearances.

Gonzaga third baseman Mitchell Gonsules sent the first pitch of the game over the wall in right-center field to stake the Bulldogs (5-7) an early 1-0 lead. The Zags loaded the bases on a trio of singles following a groundout before Kellogg induced an inning-ending double play to keep ASU's deficit to one.

The Devils took their first lead in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by second baseman Jordan Aboites. ASU extended its lead in the bottom of the fifth, 4-1, with a pair of runs in the frame. Singles by center fielder Johnny Sewald and first baseman RYan Lillard, and a fielding error on the Bulldogs loaded the bases for designated hitter RJ Ybarra, whose double-play groundout brought Sewald home from third. Third baseman Dalton DiNatale added a RBI double down the right-field line in the next at-bat and has recorded at least one RBI in each of the past four games.

Left fielder Jake Peevyhouse and Serven each singled to open the sixth, and Peevyhouse scored on a double-play groundout by Aboites to push ASU's lead to four, 5-1.

Bulldogs center fielder Tyler Frost added a solo home run in the top of the seventh, the Zags second leadoff homer of the game, to cut their deficit to three.

GU starting right-hander Andrew Sopko (1-1) took his first loss of the season after he allowed five runs, including two earned, on 12 hits in six innings.

Notes
The Devils turned a season-high three double plays and did not commit an error in the game for the first time since their season-opening win over TCU.
