Bruins Move Up Five Spots to Ninth at Southern Highlands

The 11th-ranked UCLA men's golf team moved up five spots to 9th place Tuesday after the second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas. The Bruins are tied for 9th with the hosts, UNLV at 578 (+2).

The Bruins posted a score of 284 (-4) on Tuesday, which was tied for the fifth-best round of the day. UCLA trails front-runner Oklahoma State (558, -18) by 20 shots. Texas is second at 560 (-16) followed by USC at 570 (-6). In a tie for fourth place is Oklahoma and California at 571 (-5). Tenth-ranked Texas Tech and top-ranked Illinois are tied for sixth place at 572 (-4) while sixth-ranked Arizona State is currently eighth at 575 (-1). Overall, seven of the 15 teams beat par in round two, led by the Cowboys' 278 (-10).

UCLA senior Matt Pinizzotto shot his second straight round at even par at 72 for a total of 144, tied for 27th. Pnizzotto, who recently won the TMC Spring Invitational, featured three birdies and three bogeys for the second straight day. Junior Jonathan Garrick posted a score of 71 (-1) and is tied for 33rd with a two-day total of 145 (+1). Garrick had four birdies and three bogeys today. Junior Lorens Chan moved up 15 spots to a tie for 45th with a second round of 71 (-1) for a total of 146 (+2). Chan had four birdies and three bogeys on Tuesday. The biggest mover of the day was senior Manav Shah who shot a second round of 70 (-2), moving up 23 spots into a tie for 49th. His two-round total of 147 (+3), featured four birdies and just two bogeys today. Junior Jake Knapp made four birdies on the day, but endured five bogeys and one double-bogey for a 3-over par 75. He is tied for 54th with a two-day total of 148 (+4).

UNLV's Redford Bobbitt and Alabama's Robbie Shelton were tied for first place after two rounds at 136 (-8).
