Beavers Edged In Game Two At ASU

March 15, 2015 | Baseball

PHOENIX – Brian Serven's bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning sent No. 12 Arizona State to a 4-3 win over the Oregon State baseball team Saturday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. The loss snaps Oregon State's win streak at 11 games.

Serven singled off reliever Sam Tweedt, with the loss coming to Zack Reser, who allowed just one unearned run. He took the loss to drop to 0-1 on the year.

The loss sends the Beavers to a 15-4 record this season, and 1-1 mark in Pac-12 Conference play. ASU, meanwhile, is now 11-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play,

The Beavers got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead after one when Gabe Clark doubled home KJ Harrison, who had been running on the play.

OSU advanced the lead to 3-0 when Logan Ice and Jeff Hendrix posted run-scoring singles in the second inning. The Sun Devils, however, answered back in the bottom half of the inning when David Greer singled in Trever Allen from third. Oregon State starter Drew Rasmussen, however, forced ASU into a flyout and double play to get out of the jam.

The game remained with a two-run Oregon State lead until the eighth when Arizona State, on RBI from Joey Bielek and Brian Serven, tied the game at three. Reser, the Beavers' fifth reliever of the night, was able to induce a fly ball to left to end the inning.

Rasmussen did not figure in the decision in the third start of his career, and first against Pac-12 competition. The freshman worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and a run with three strikeouts.

Arizona State starter Ryan Kellogg also did not figure the decision. The left-hander went seven full, scattering nine hits and three runs with four strikeouts.

Arizona State reliever Ryan Burr picked up the win after a scoreless ninth to improve to 3-0 on the year.

The teams complete the series Sunday with a 1:05 p.m. PT first pitch at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. The game will air live on Pac-12 Oregon and Pac-12 Arizona. Fans outside those regions can catch the game via Pac-12.com or the Pac-12 Now App.

The game can also be heard live on the Beaver Sports Network and TuneIn.
