Beavers Open Series With 5-2 Win

March 21, 2015 | Baseball

CORVALLIS, Ore. – KJ Harrison homered and Andrew Moore scattered six hits and two runs over 8 2/3 innings to send the Oregon State baseball team to a 5-2 win over Washington State in the series opener Friday at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

The game is a part of the Northwest Rivalry Series, presented by Alaska.

Harrison hit the third pitch he saw from WSU starter Sean Hartnett over the left field fence in the third inning, giving the Beavers a 2-0 lead. It marked his seventh round-tripper of the season and snapped the team's streak at four games without a home run.

Overall, the home run was the 22nd of the season for the Beavers, who hit 21 all of last season.

Moore, meanwhile, improved to 2-0 after coming one out shy of his fourth career complete game. He struck out 10 and walked just one. The win marked the 22nd of his career.

Already up 2-0, the Beavers (16-5 overall, 2-2 Pac-12 Conference) added on to the lead with two runs in the fifth. Scotland Church, pinch hitting for Michael Howard, reached on a fielder's choice to second with the bases loaded for the Beavers' third run of the game. Two batter later, and with the bases loaded again, Logan Ice hit a sacrifice fly to right, allowing the team's fourth run to come in from third.

WSU scored two in the seventh, but saw the Beavers tack on another on an RBI double by Kyle Nobach in the bottom half of the inning.

Hartnett was saddled with the loss for Washington State (12-9, 1-3). The right-hander allowed four hits and two runs over 3 2/3 innings to drop to 3-3 on the year.

Jeff Hendrix, who scored on Harrison's home run in the third, went 2-for-4 to extend his hit streak to a season-long 11 games.

The teams continue the series Saturday with a 1:35 p.m. PT first pitch at Goss Stadium. Fans can listen on the Beaver Sports Network and TuneIn. It can also be watched for free via a live stream at osubeavers.com.
