Arizona leads after Session 1 of Pac-12 Gymnastics Championships

SALT LAKE CITY-- The 2015 Pac-12 Women’s Gymnastics Championships got underway this afternoon with lower seeds No. 5 ARIZONA, No. 6 CALIFORNIA, No. 7 WASHINGTON, and No. 8 ARIZONA STATE competing in the first session in the Huntsman Center on the campus of the University of Utah.

In the first session of the day, the teams finished in seeding order with ARIZONA coming out on top followed by CALIFORNIA, WASHINGTON, and ARIZONA STATE.

ARIZONA came away with a total team score of 196.225. Last season, the Wildcats came in sixth overall at Pac-12 Championships with a score of 196.250. The Wildcats’ lone all-arounder, freshman Madison Cindric came in second in the all-around with a score of 39.275. Cindric also came in second on the bars with a 9.850 and tied for first on the beam with teammate Lexi Mills as well as CALIFORNIA’s Desiree Palmoares. Junior Jessie Sisler also won first place on the floor with a 9.950, a career best for her.

In second place of Session 1 was CALIFORNIA with a score of 196.150. CALIFORNIA was led by freshman Toni-Ann Williams who tied for first in the all-around with a 39.325, tied for first on vault with a 9.875, and came in second on the floor with a 9.925. Freshman Arianna Robinson came in third on the floor with a 9.900.  

WASHINGTON ended with a score of 196.00 to get third place in Session 1. The Huskies also came away with a win on the bars, earning a team score of 49.075 in the event. Junior Allison Northey tied for first in the all-around with a score of 39.325 and came in first on the bars with a 9.900. Freshman Hailey Burleson also tied for first on the vault. 

ARIZONA STATE rounded out Session 1 with a total team score of 192.700

Session 2 will feature the four higher seeds, including host, defending champion, and top seed UTAH. Also showcased in Session 2 will be seed No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 OREGON STATE, and No. 4 STANFORD. The action will resume at 6:00 p.m. PT and will be shown live on the Pac-12 Networks.
