Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.—Fresh off a first-place finish at the Clover Cup, the No. 22 Arizona State women’s golf team heads to San Diego to compete in the 2015 SDSU Farms Invitational.  The tournament, to be held Mar. 23-25, will be played at the par-72, 6,237-yard Farms Golf Club.

The 16-team field features No. 22 Arizona State, No. 73 Boise State, No. 36 California, No. 40 Colorado, No. 49 Houston, No. 52 Kansas, No. 65 Long Beach State, No. 80 Michigan, No. 104 Nevada, No. 122 New Mexico, No. 13 Oklahoma State, No. 19 Pepperdine, No. 24 SDSU, No. 15 Tennessee, No. 146 UC Irvine, and No. 18 UNLV.

The Sun Devil lineup includes freshman Roberta Liti, sophomore Monica Vaughn, senior Noemi Jimenez, and freshmen Sophia Zeeb and Ashleigh Greenham.  Golfing in the No. 1 spot for the first time in her collegiate career, Liti is fresh off a top-20 finish at the Clover Cup.

Vaughn looks to continue her hot streak.  The sophomore has recorded three top-10 finishes in the past four tournaments, including a second-place finish at the Clover Cup last weekend.  Vaughn leads the Sun Devil squad with a 72.72 scoring average through six tournaments.

New this year, the tournament will consist of 72 holes of match play—18 holes on Monday, 36 holes on Tuesday, and 18 holes on Wednesday.  First round seeding will be determined by Golfstat rankings as of March 18.  Results from Monday’s round will determine the brackets for round two.

Each team match will be comprised of five singles matches, using USGA match play scoring.  Each singles match winner will be awarded one point.  Matches tied or halved will be awarded half a point.  The team match score will be determined by totaling the points for the five singles matches.  The team with the most points will be the winner.

Last year, Arizona State recorded a fourth-place finish at the SDSU Farms Invitational.  The Sun Devils shot a 17-over 881 (295-284-302) and placed three in the top 20 overall. Jimenez was ASU’s top finisher, tying for fifth with a 1-over 217, while former Sun Devil Justine Lee tied for 13th and Emilie Alonso tied for 16th.

First round action will begin at 7:45 a.m. PT/MST on Monday.  Live scoring will be available on BirdieFire.com.
